more on bulbs

I just ordered a bunch of CFLs through a local nonprofit that is working on a fundraiser with our local utility company. They ranged from $12 to $15 for a three-pack, depending upon the wattage. But, $6 of every three-pack goes back to the charity, one that I support. They allowed all nonprofits to participate if they wished. Since each individual bulb should save you roughly $50 in energy costs — a $150 return on investment — over its lifetime, that’s certainly win-win. CFLs last about 10 times as long as their counterparts.

If you’re looking to stock up, check your local power company’s website, where any potential programs would likely be on the residential/energy savings side or on the corporate/community/news and/or investor relations side. Happy hunting.

Note: OUC is offering this program to Central Florida nonprofit organizations: http://www.ouc.com/news/releases/cfl_fundraiser.htm. So, if you’re local, check out the list. You may be able to help your utility bills, the environment and a deserving local charity all in one purchase.
